This article covers how virtual bundles (products made up of individual components) are fulfilled through the Amazon MCF and Buy with Prime app for Shopify, for each Amazon fulfillment service:
- MCF
- Prime delivery
- Buy with Prime
Jump to the section for the Amazon fulfillment service you use.
For all three services, the bundle itself does not need to be mapped to an Amazon SKU. Amazon fulfills the bundle by shipping its component products, each mapped to its own Amazon SKU and kept in stock. Merchants create the bundle using any Shopify bundling app that creates a fixed bundle (a set list of components and quantities), such as Shopify Bundles, which is free for all Shopify merchants. Bundles with options, where the shopper chooses among items, aren’t supported.
MCF
Setup
- Create the bundle in any Shopify bundling app, such as Shopify Bundles (free for all Shopify merchants).
- Map each component product to an Amazon SKU on the Manage product catalog screen in the app, and set each component to use MCF.
- Keep each component in stock at Amazon.
Orders
When a shopper checks out with the bundle, the Amazon MCF and Buy with Prime app fulfills the order by shipping the Amazon SKUs linked to the bundle’s components.
Prime delivery
Prime delivery shows a Prime delivery estimate and badge on a bundle’s Shopify product page. There is no activation step on the bundle itself. The card is driven entirely by the bundle’s components.
Setup
- Before you start, ensure Prime delivery is turned on for your store. For details, see Set up MCF using the Multichannel Fulfillment app for Shopify.
- Create the bundle in any Shopify bundling app, such as Shopify Bundles (free for all Shopify merchants).
- Map each component product to an Amazon SKU on the Manage product catalog screen in the app, and choose MCF for each component.
- Keep each component in stock at Amazon.
The card then shows on the bundle’s product page automatically. The bundle itself does not need to be mapped to an Amazon SKU: you can’t map it on the Manage product catalog screen, by file upload, or through automatic matching. The bundle’s delivery promise (Prime badge and date) and its stock come from its components.
When a shopper orders the bundle, Amazon fulfills it through MCF by shipping the Amazon SKUs mapped to its components.
Prime delivery card rendering requirements
The Prime delivery card shows only when every component of the bundle:
- Has a Shopify SKU and has synced to the app
- Is mapped to an Amazon SKU
- Is set to use MCF (not No Services)
- Has enough Amazon stock for at least one full bundle (for example, a bundle with two units of Product A needs at least two units of A in stock after the inventory buffer)
If any component fails one of these checks, the card doesn’t show for the bundle. The card uses each component’s Amazon stock after the inventory buffer, not the bundle quantity shown in Shopify. A bundle can show as in stock in Shopify and still have no card. If any component doesn’t have enough stock for one full bundle, the card stays hidden until it does.
What the card shows
The card shows the longest delivery estimate among the bundle’s components, since every component must arrive. If a component’s estimate has no date, the card shows “Fast free delivery” instead.
The estimate is calculated for one bundle. It doesn’t change when the shopper selects a quantity of two or more.
Buy with Prime
Buy with Prime shows a Prime delivery estimate and Prime button on a bundle’s Shopify product page, and lets shoppers check out with Prime. You turn it on per bundle from the same screen you use to map products.
Setup
- Create the bundle in any Shopify bundling app, such as Shopify Bundles (free for all Shopify merchants).
- From the app home page, choose Manage product catalog.
- On the Review and activate products screen, switch the view to Individual, map each component product to an Amazon SKU, and turn on Buy with Prime for each component.
- Switch the view to Bundles. For each bundle, open the Amazon Services drop-down and choose Buy with Prime.
A bundle only appears in the Bundles view after you create it in your bundling app. If any of the bundle’s components don’t have Buy with Prime turned on, the dropdown is disabled and the row shows “One or more products in the bundle are not Prime eligible.” Turn on Buy with Prime for the component first, then return to turn on Buy with Prime for the bundle. Bundles without Prime use your standard fulfillment options.
Once Buy with Prime is turned on, shoppers see the Prime delivery estimate and Prime button on the bundle’s product detail page. They can check out with Prime.
The product page shows the longest delivery estimate among the bundle’s components, because every component must arrive. If a component’s estimate has no date, the page shows “Fast free delivery” instead. The estimate is calculated for one bundle and doesn’t change when the shopper selects a quantity of two or more.
Buy with Prime button requirements
The Buy with Prime button shows only when every component of the bundle:
- Has a Shopify SKU and has synced to the app
- Is mapped to an Amazon SKU
- Has Buy with Prime turned on
- Has enough Amazon stock for at least one full bundle, after the inventory buffer
If any component fails one of these checks, the button doesn’t show and shoppers use your standard checkout. If a component doesn’t have enough stock for one full bundle, the button stays hidden until it does. The button uses each component’s Amazon stock after the inventory buffer, not the bundle quantity shown in Shopify.
